Loreto School by Architectus
Supplied by our sister company, DCA Facade, the Clendon Centre at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak is the school’s new learning and home base for Years 7 to 9 students, opened and blessed by Archbishop Peter Comensoli in March 2022. Set on tree-lined Clendon Road, the more than 7,500m² building spans six levels, three of them below ground, with Years 7 and 8 on the two upper floors and Year 9 on the ground floor and first basement level to build independence ahead of the senior years.
Designed by Architectus and delivered by builder Vaughan Constructions, the project needed a form and material palette that respected the school’s heritage setting, including Charles Webb’s Mandeville Hall and St George’s Chapel, while responding to the residential scale and rhythm of Clendon Road. Installer Kospol Facade fitted Rieder Concrete Skin glassfibre reinforced concrete panels in Liquid Black, manufactured by Rieder.
The result is a match of award-winning architecture and contemporary learning, with the Clendon Centre taking out the Henry Bastow Award for Educational Architecture at the 2022 Victorian Architecture Awards and the Concrete Skin facade giving the building a refined, durable and low-maintenance finish that sits calmly within its historic campus.
